Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville Renovate Central Chiller Plant
Prime Contract with Illinois Capital Development Board
Wissehr Electrical Contractors was awarded a prime contract with the Illinois CDB for upgrading the medium and low voltage power distribution system at the central chiller plant which provides chilled water for HVAC systems at all of the buildings on campus. Existing 5KV switchgear and padmounted transformers were removed and replaced along with associated medium voltage electrical feeders to chillers, pumps, and other critical equipment in the building. New cable tray was installed throughout the plant to provide flexibility for future electrical modifications and additions. Square D PowerLogic digital metering was installed and connected to the building automation system to allow the electrical system to be remotely monitored for power demand, usage, and quality. Pump starters were upgrade to variable frequency drives to provide energy efficiency based on system demand. The project was completed in phases to minimize impact to the campus, especially during the warm season.
