Prime Contract with USACE

Wissehr Electrical Contractors was awarded a prime contract by the US Army Corp of Engineers to complete the power distribution upgrades at Lock 27 in Granite City, the busiest Lock along the Mississippi River system. Electrical work included upgrade of the 1,200 amp 480 volt electrical service and power distribution system complete with zone selective interlocking and digital metering. Wissehr was responsible for coordination work activities and outages with the Lock personnel, the barge industry, and Ameren Electric. To make sure the project work met the government’s strict specifications, Wissehr provided a full time on-site quality control supervisor and safety supervisor for the entire duration of the project. New underground concrete encased ductbanks were installed for power to the Lock. Power feeders were upgraded and replaced for many of the motor control centers controlling the Lock systems. Existing circuit breakers were upgraded throughout the Lock to improve electrical coordination. All work was completed with minimal interruptions to the facility operations to keep the river open for the barge industry.
