Wissehr Electrical Contractors was awarded a prime contract by the US Army Corp of Engineers to complete the power distribution upgrades at Lock 27 in Granite City, the busiest Lock along the Mississippi River system. Electrical work included upgrade of the 1,200 amp 480 volt electrical service and power distribution system complete with zone selective interlocking and digital metering.

Prime Contract with USACE
Wissehr Electrical Contractors was awarded a prime contract by the US Army Corp of Engineers to complete the power distribution upgrades at Lock 27 in Granite City, the busiest Lock along the Mississippi River system. Electrical work included upgrade of the 1,200 amp 480 volt electrical service and power distribution system complete with zone selective interlocking and digital metering. Wissehr was responsible for coordination work activities and outages with the Lock personnel, the barge industry, and Ameren Electric. To make sure the project work met the government’s strict specifications, Wissehr provided a full time on-site quality control supervisor and safety supervisor for the entire duration of the project. New underground concrete encased ductbanks were installed for power to the Lock. Power feeders were upgraded and replaced for many of the motor control centers controlling the Lock systems. Existing circuit breakers were upgraded throughout the Lock to improve electrical coordination. All work was completed with minimal interruptions to the facility operations to keep the river open for the barge industry.

IDOT closed a deteriorated section of Interstate 255 to make repairs to pavement. During the closure all of the roadway lighting in the construction zone was replaced as well. Wissehr installed 5 miles of underground conduit and cable, all new aluminum light poles, and replaced all of the old high pressure sodium light fixtures with new energy-efficient LED fixtures.

Wissehr installed 5 miles of underground conduit and cable, all new aluminum light poles, and replaced all of the old high pressure sodium light fixtures with new energy-efficient LED fixtures. The job was performed under very strict time constraints. Wissehr was able meet or exceed the required pace and the roadway was opened to traffic one month ahead of schedule.

Wissehr installed all electrical systems in the construction of the Loop Trolley office and maintenance facility that stores and maintains the Trolley cars. Work consisted of installation of 2000 amp electrical service to the building, automated transfer switches, generator provisions, and the 600VDC traction power substation and rectifier to provide power to the trolley catenary wire system.

Wissehr installed new underground duct banks and switches for 2KV traction power feeder cables that power Metro’s overhead catenary system. Work involved sawcutting, removal, and replacement of pavement, installation of concrete encased duct banks with fiberglass reinforced polymer conduit, site restoration, and pavement replacement. Work was accomplished while minimally impacting Metro train operations and vehicular traffic in parking lot by performing work in phases and also during weekend and night shifts.

Wissehr worked as part of the team that escorted a petroleum reactor weighing millions of pounds from a river terminal along the Mississippi River to an oil refinery in Wood River, IL. Wissehr removed and relocated multiple traffic signal mast arm structures along the route to allow the 33 foot tall and 200 foot long reactor to travel down state highways and county roads to its final destination.

Prime Contract with Illinois Capital Development Board
Wissehr Electrical Contractors was awarded a prime contract with the Illinois CDB for upgrading the medium and low voltage power distribution system at the central chiller plant which provides chilled water for HVAC systems at all of the buildings on campus. Existing 5KV switchgear and padmounted transformers were removed and replaced along with associated medium voltage electrical feeders to chillers, pumps, and other critical equipment in the building. New cable tray was installed throughout the plant to provide flexibility for future electrical modifications and additions. Square D PowerLogic digital metering was installed and connected to the building automation system to allow the electrical system to be remotely monitored for power demand, usage, and quality. Pump starters were upgrade to variable frequency drives to provide energy efficiency based on system demand. The project was completed in phases to minimize impact to the campus, especially during the warm season.

Wissehr made improvements in order to modernize the aging campus data center infrastructure. The work was carefully scheduled, coordinated, and phased with University officials to minimize disruption to the campus network. Electrical work included upgrade of the 480 volt electrical distribution system, replacement of the existing Liebert UPS system with an APC Symmetra PX 125KW scalable and hot-swappable 480 volt 3-phase UPS system, installation of two – 20 rack APC Netshelter hot-aisle containment systems complete with InRow cooling units, smart PDU power supplies and an overhead Powerbus busway power distribution system. The data center fire alarm and suppression system was upgraded with a FM-200 agent and a new analog addressable detection and notification system for the room, raised-floor, and the hot-aisle containment areas. The room ceiling was replaced and new LED lighting was installed. Wissehr was also responsible for other upgrades such a wall partition modifications, painting, chilled water mechanical piping, upgrade of existing chillers, plumbing, HVAC, and other work.
Loop Trolley Overhead Catenary System

Installation of a single wire fixed termination 600V DC overhead catenary system and underground traction power system for the 2.2 mile long electric street car system. The loop trolley is the first and only electric streetcar system in St. Louis.

Prime Contract with Loop Trolley Transportation Development District
Installation of a single wire fixed termination 600V DC overhead catenary system and underground traction power system for the 2.2 mile long electric street car system. The loop trolley is the first and only electric streetcar system in St. Louis. Trolley system components consisted of pre-cast concrete support poles, cantilever arms, span wires, contact wire, OCS switches, and other miscellaneous hardware. Wissehr also replaced the existing degraded streetlighting system with new LED lighting and controllers. Concrete ductbanks were installed beneath the street to encase the communication backbone as well as the 2KV traction power cables.
